Mnt Graham & Arrington rock

I finally got to go to Arrington rock!! Here's the short version of the story behind it. Adam's dad bushwacked this trail way back in the day when he was a scout. He found this huge boulder that hangs out forming a ledge that overlooks the whole Safford/Thatcher area. He named it "Arrington Rock" & you can only be shown the way if you are an Arrington. :) You follow the main trail most of the way, but the last part you have to know where to go to get to the rock. It only took 12 years to get me there. We did try to do the hike once the first year we were married, but there was too much snow. I don't really know why it took 12 years to get back down there & do this. Adam has been back to it a few times with his brothers & his dad, but this was the first time we've gone since we started having kids. Oh well. So we drove down to Mount Graham & camped at the campsite at the end of road. I can't remember the name. We had decided to just take the older girls cuz we didn't think the little ones would have done very good with the cold or the hike. & man am I glad!!! It was NOT what I was expecting. The camping was fun. The kids fished. We made smores, played cards, hung out. It was great. It is a beautiful area. Here's the lake about 50 yards from our tent. & check this out just up about 100 yards the opposite direction from our campsite. The view was AMAZING!! the drop off made me pretty nervous, but it wasn't too bad. It had a steep slope down from there but we could see down it so I was ok. Here it is at sunset. The hike the next morning was really pretty easy. Maybe 2 miles round trip, mostly trail . The last little bit of it was more of a rock scramble which would have been fine if it weren't for the almost sheer drop offs not 15 feet from where we were climbing. That should have been my first clue that this was gonna be interesting. The view was incredible but at the end of the rock was a cliff at about 8,000 feet. Straight down! It turns out I have a horrible fear of heights. I knew they bothered me, but this was ridiculous! I lasted barely long enough for these pictures & then I was outta there. It sure was beautiful, but I don't think I can go back out on the rock. It scared me to death!! i was seriously freaked! Can you tell I was losing it?Adam has done this hike several times & has no problem. The girls thought it was awesome. I know they want to go back, but hopefully they will wait awhile so I won't have to freak out again too soon. :)
