Maui rocks!!

Of course everyone already knows that. But as much as we were looking forward to a week away without the kids, it's way harder to actually do it. We missed the kids like crazy, but we managed to have a great time. Adam & I went this past week with 2 other couples and had a blast! We were only there for about 3 hours before we went snorkeling down by Black Rock and got to see TONS of beautiful fish & see some cool green sea turtles so close you could touch them-if you wanted to pay a hefty fine. :) Yes. Adam DID take this picture himself... after touching it.Here's the Hawaii state fish. The Humuhumunukunukuapua'a. Or trigger fish.We spent Sunday being lazy on the beach. Here's the view from our chairs. I know. we are way spoiled...Monday the girls enjoyed the sun while the boys went spear fishing. The only thing they caught was a dead lobster and the heebie jeebies due to the dead shark in the cove they were in. Of course Adam couldn't leave it alone and kept stabbing the shark with the spear gun. It led to a lot of smelly jokes that I'll spare you from hearing. Trust me... Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday we went scuba diving. It was really cool. Wish we would have chosen some better spots, but it was still awesome. The first one was Honolua Bay which was amazing. Here we are in our shorty dive suits. check out Adam's cool hair...We had to hike down about 250 yards to the rocky cove & then swim out another 300 yards or so to the dive spot. We were pretty tired at that point, but it was worth it. Even with the bloody nose. The second day we went to a place called Wash Rock. It was off a dirt road between Lahaina & Kahului. It was a REALLY rocky entry where we got the crap beat out of us on the way in & out, but it was a fun dive. Here's the guys tying off the dive flag.& somehow this is the only picture I have of all three of us girls. I'll have to see if they have any of all of us together... I'm on the left, Desi is in the middle & Destiny is on the right. We hit 55 feet which was cool. but we got a little lost. NOTE: make sure you have a compass. That's when we realized we didn't have them on our regs. Not sure how we missed that before, but we survived. It was interesting though... Oh & nose bleed number 2. I started thinking diving might not be my thing, but I went again anyways cuz it's fun! Day 3- we saved the best dive for last. 5 caves off Makena landing. Unfortunately we didn't realize until after the hour plus drive to the other side of the island that there was a big swell that came in making it nearly impossible. The guys snorkeled out to be sure, but got pretty beat up by the waves getting out there to look. So we drove back to "our side" of the island & went to D.T. Fleming. A long beach hike to the entry, but better than swimming in the waves. But it was not really a very good dive spot. 15 feet almost the entire time after swimming through some rough surf. still had fun, but kind of anticlimactic when you saved "the best for last." Got a few good pics though. Check out this puffer fish. It was huge! & Here's us. Can you tell my mask is too small? grabbed the wrong one unfortunately & had to either live with it or not not dive cuz it was too late to go back to the condo & trade it. Kinda hurt my nose for a few days but it didn't leak water thankfully. I think it was a kids mask... lesson learned. make sure you check the mask BEFORE you leave so you have the one that fits comfortably. Yeah, I know better... Oh well...Adam was getting my attention to see the turtle that just swam past us. You can barely see it behind Adam's tank.& out favorite dive picture. arm wrestling at the bottom of the sea. Adam on the left. Our friend Destiny on the right. I'm calling it in the back. It's pretty funny cuz you just roll over as soon as you start wrestling... Adam's favorite underwater find. What a goof ball. :) Speaking of goof balls... Here's the boys in Hana.Yes, we made the trip. It was a beautiful & LONG drive. & we didn't get to do our hike or see the 7 sacred pools, but it was still cool. Desi (John's wife. John's the guy in the middle. The other guy is Brian) brought the Maui revealed book that tells about the "hidden" Maui sites. We checked out some cool ones that had us hiking back off the road to see some cool stuff. Like this black sand beach:Adam the bushwacker.Me on the jungle trail. Here's some pretty waterfalls that we hiked back to see...
We hiked down this one trail that John decided was a better way down cuz he was too cool not to try so when we got to the bottom the regular way Adam decided to climb back up that way.
But check out this beautiful red sand beach. the hike in is the ONLY way to get back to it. It was so awesome! Here's the view from the cliff trail. & Adam's favorite picture...Even though the trip ended with Adam getting the flu for the last day & half, he kicked a grin for this picture before we left for the airport. Well, that's it for our Maui pictures. When we get together with everyone else I will post another entry with any pictures they got that I didn't. We had fun but we are so glad to be home.
